My profile: Ken Haley

My journalistic career has spanned four continents and run the gamut of newspaper publications from rural journalism to sub-editing on The Times foreign desk in London.

I have travelled at length in more than 130 countries, most of them since adopting the sedentary life of a wheelchair user 20 years ago. My first book about wheelchair travel and battling personal crisis in our lives - Emails from the Edge - was published in 2006. I spoke about it on NZ's TV1 breakfast program and with Ms Ryan on NZBC radio, as well as appearing at the Christchurch Writers' Festival that year.

My second book - Europe @ 2.4 km/h - is being published 'across the ditch' in July 2011.

I am a fully LinkedIn members and invite viewers to check me out there or by Googling my name and 'Emails from the Edge' to see what others think of my writing.

In 1995 I won 'Australia's Pulitzer' - a Walkley Award for the Best Headlines Published in a Metropolitan Newspaper that year.

My strong suits include an ability to play piano entertainingly with just one hand (or two if you prefer), an encyclopaedically broad (but silicon-thin) general knowledge, particularly in the fields of literature, religion and history, and a near-perfect incapacity at cooking - which makes me very popular in restaurants everywhere.
